Music Lessons

WHY LEARN MUSIC?
Learning a musical instrument is about so much more than playing notes. It’s about unlocking a lifelong journey of growth, creativity, and connection.
For children, music education supports brain development, boosts memory and focus, and builds the kind of patience and discipline that benefits every area of life. It helps kids grow in confidence as they overcome challenges, master new skills, and express themselves in ways words often can’t.
Music also teaches valuable life skills — listening, communication, teamwork, time management — all while offering a creative outlet that’s fun, fulfilling, and screen-free. Whether your child becomes a performer, a songwriter, or just someone who finds joy in music, the experience will stay with them forever.
For adults, music can be equally transformative — reigniting creativity, relieving stress, and opening doors to personal expression. It’s never too late to begin, and no talent is “required” to start. You just need curiosity and a willingness to play.
Whether you’re 5 or 55, music is a gift — one that grows with you, travels with you, and helps you become more of who you are.
I offer lessons in vocals, piano, guitar, bass guitar, ukulele, banjo, and pedal steel guitar, with a flexible approach designed to meet each student where they’re at. Whether you’re just starting out, picking up a new instrument, or looking to refine your skills, I’ll work with you to create tailored resources and a personalised learning path that suits your unique style and goals. And if there’s an instrument you’re hoping to engage with that I haven’t mentioned, feel free to reach out — I’d love to hear how I can support your musical journey.
LESSONS

SINGING / VOCAL COACHING
I never planned to be a singer — until the gig required it. Performing 20–40 songs a night in a hotel band overseas was a crash course in vocal stamina, tone, and control. It taught me how to sing powerfully and sustainably, night after night.
I’ll help you unlock your voice, sharpen your pitch, and discover a signature style that’s all your own.
🎙️ Let’s get you singing with confidence and clarity.
Lessons

Guitar
With over 30 years on the fretboard and 20+ years as a professional, guitar has taken me around the world — from studios to stages, to earning a Master’s degree focused on Pentecostal African-American gospel styles.
I started with private lessons at age 11 and quickly learned the value of ear training and transcription — writing out songs in my own TAB books. Whether you’re picking up a guitar for the first time or want to develop your playing and style, I’ll help you build a strong, creative foundation.
🎶 Let’s unlock your guitar potential — one chord at a time.
LESSONS

PIANO
My journey into piano started on synth. A single keyboard line during a gig led to a full-time keys role — and eventually, a deep love for the instrument.
Unlike guitar, piano lays everything out in front of you. It doesn’t have to be dry scales and drills — it can be fun, expressive, and surprisingly simple when taught the right way. We’ll use real songs to develop your playing, understanding, and creativity.
🎹 I’ll give you the keys to unlock the notes.
Lessons

Bass Guitar
Bass isn’t just a low-pitched guitar — it’s a foundational instrument with its own voice and deep responsibility in any band. I’ve stepped into the role of bassist both live and in studio, and I know firsthand the groove, confidence, and awareness it takes to hold down the low end.
Together, we’ll explore technique, rhythm, tone, and musical vocabulary tailored to the bass.
🎵 Solid bass playing can make or break a song — I’ll help you make it.
Lessons

UKULELE
With fewer strings and a smaller neck, the ukulele is a perfect starting point — especially for young learners, singer-songwriters, or anyone looking for a gentle entry into music.
I was first handed a uke during a stripped-back performance, and it’s been with me ever since. It’s light, portable, and powerful.
🌱 From little things, big things grow — let’s plant the seed.

PEDALSTEEL GUITAR
The pedal steel is mysterious, expressive, and unforgettable — using foot pedals, knee levers, and slide technique to create its iconic, swooning sound. I’ve spent years learning this captivating instrument, and I have a spare rig you can learn on.
🎛️ Slide into a whole new sound world — I’ll guide you through every lever and string.
LESSONS

BANJO
From clawhammer to Scruggs-style picking, the banjo has a character all its own. I took it up after my Master’s degree and taught myself through daily practice — and documented the journey on Instagram at @banjobraderson
Even 30–60 minutes a day can lead to big results.
🍃 Let me show you how the bluegrass gets greener.

MUSIC THEORY
Music theory is like any language — easier to learn when it’s spoken, heard, and felt. I teach theory with hands-on tools and real-world application, not just textbooks and terminology.
And here’s a secret: you don’t need it to start making music. The joy can come first — the theory will follow.
🧠 Take the minor steps — I’ll help you with the major ones.
